Royal Navy Engineering Challenge
Two teams from South Devon UTC were tasked with designing and building, from scratch, a remote controlled vessel to specific dimensions. This vessel needed to float, propel and steer around a water tank and be able to retrieve various items from the bottom of the tank.
The two teams designed two very different vessels, one with a crane mechanism and one with a scoop mechanism.
Both teams have been working on the boats since February when the brief was released to them and they competed yesterday at UTC Plymouth.
Both South Devon UTC teams (Y10 and Y12) progressed from the regional heats for the South West to the regional final of this year’s Royal Navy Engineering Challenge, which is in Leeds in November 2022.
Huge congratulations to them all. This is a testament to all of the hard work they’ve put in over the past few months.
