South Devon UTC: Relaunched
September 2021 sees the relaunch of the South Devon UTC, which transferred to the multi-academy trust. Education South West, in February 2021.
In addition to the engineering pathway, two new exciting pathways have been launched which has led to successful recruitment of new students into the college.
New student cohorts are commencing the Health Sciences pathway in year 10 and year 12 in September; brand new health science teaching spaces have been created, including a fully kitted mini-hospital ward, supporting a fresh and exciting curriculum.
The Digital Technology Pathway has been developed, providing students the opportunity to study from year 10 (or starting in year 12) both technical and creative IT courses, including gaming, app development, virtual reality, website development, aligned to the demands of industry today, where shortages in the supply of young people with the right skills is pushing demand sky high. https://southdevonutc.org.uk/faculty-of-digital-technology/industry-news/
Significant investment in the facilities throughout the college have created state of the art learning spaces for all three pathways, and an environment which allows students to have an experience akin to being in the workplace.
Education South West is committed to creating learning pathways which excite and motivate all children, wherever their talents and interests lie. South Devon UTC is an important component of this aspiration, exposing students to additional opportunity and choice.
As the new academic year starts, Rob Coles (who is also Head of Coombeshead Academy) becomes the Executive Head of the South Devon UTC, working closely with Claire Plumb as Head of College.
South Devon UTC is truly a college like no other for 14-19 years olds.
